 Birth of Green (2023)

video + sound

Green limes, olives, riyals, algae blooms, spoiled milk, the flag, serpents, veins, greens, oxidation, disgust, locusts, heaven, and all things that yellow under the sun. These are the things they told us prospered at the brink of spring.

Green...

The scent of a tuberose, plucked only to be crushed in a fist. The sound of ringing steel; perhaps the snipping of gauze with a rusty pair of scissors.

Growth and renewal, safety, illness, jealousy, and envy.

A fading green, like those palm tree crowns that hover above our heads like nests of gods. Green, like poison in cartoons, unripe dates, or the green light Gatsby speaks of. Green like walking barefoot on freshly cut grass.

Like that emerald necklace my mother used to wear.

Green... a random set of letters held together by a single strand of hair.

Green...

I can almost feel the earth taking a deep breath.
